Just putting this in my journal as a record of what I wrote other than my email program ;-)

There is a recurring debate inside Red Hat as to whether one of our mailing lists that has traditionally been an outlet of free speech should be allowed to have long threads of emails on non-business related matters. This is one response I wrote to the thread.

Long, long ago, in a galaxy far, far away
there existed a place for open communications
that was not fettered by constraints of
“business only” communications or only politically
correct speak allowed. A brave group of
resistance fighters struggle against the
evil Emperor Szulik, his right hand man
Darth Webbink, and the Imperial Senate of
Human Capital that has fallen under
Emperor Szulik’s direct control. The Emporor
and his minions attempt to silence the
unruly rebellion for the sake of limitation
of liability and in the name of increased
productivity. The rebellion resists these
measures in the name of sharing of ideas, even
such silly ones as “If we lobbied for the
legalization of Cannibas in Utah would we
then gain a competetive advantage against
Novell?” and the follow on question of “But
if we legalized Cannabis in Utah, could
Utah withstand Eric Cartman’s wrath? (See, we
really do care about more than just competitive
advantage)”

As we enter our struggle, the brave resistance
fighters are beset on all sides by the
proliferation of inferior email clients that
threaten to undo the entire basis of their
free speech. The Emperor’s cloning program
has successfully turned all email clients
into evil programs that subject their users
to incessant spam without the option to ignore
unwanted ads for male enhancement. The resistance
fighters have countered with an email campaign
with the slogan “All males have 1 X chromosome,
you’re only half male, it won’t work.” As a result
of this campaign, inmates of the Imperial 2 Y chromosome
detention facility have stopped using
cigarettes as a form of money and are now
spending all their rations online. The
spammers are rolling in so much money that
proliferation of new spam schemes has reached
an all time high and the Imperial email system
is ready to implode under the stress…

Matthew, Mark, and all of HC are innocent, I just picked on
them for the fun of it ;-)
