Why I like …
Am. Staffs (American Staffordshire Terrier, aka American Pit Bull Terrier, which is distinctly different than a real Pit Bull Terrier. Real Pit Bill Terriers are mainly found in Europe and only weigh around 30 to 40 lbs. while Am. Staffs weigh in the 50 to 60 lbs. range.)
Watching a show on TV today called Dogs with Jobs. There was a woman talking about her Am. Staff. They had read about someone else who had some Am. Staffs pups, so they took their own dog out to meet them and see what the place was like. They got there only to find out that the people who had the pups were basically breeding them for fighting. Well, they didn’t like that at all and decided to get out of there. As they were getting in the car, their own dog had one of the pups in her mouth! She had stolen one of the pups. The woman took that as a sign that this pup needed to go with them and so they just left with it! Anyway, Am. Staffs can be bred and taught to fight, but they are also some of the most loyal and protective dogs when it comes to their own pack that I’ve ever met. I wouldn’t give mine up for the world. We’ve had a house guest or two get freaked out over our Am. Staff. She’s got a very strong mothering instinct, and when you get out of the shower all wet, she thinks she needs to help dry you off, so she comes over and wants the lick the water off of your legs (and she also gives *very* long tongue baths to the other dogs, she never did that until after she had her own litter of pups). It can freak you out if you aren’t expecting it, but I promise she’s doing it out of a mothering instinct, not because she’s thirsty and thinks you are a big, wet salt lick
