Cleaning crew

Responding to ryeth’s statement about the cleaning clew liking Delilah…that’s a bit of an understatement. These guys are comfortable enough with her that when she was stalking them with a tennis ball in her mouth wanting to play, they didn’t just play with her, they intentionally riled her up on top of playing with her tennis ball. That’s people that are comfortable with Pit Bulls ;-) The first time they did it Jessica went in the area they were working expecting to have to chase Delilah off, instead one of the guys said “Sorry, I was riling her up”. After that, we figured her barking was OK and decided that if they rile her up, they get to deal with her and we don’t have to worry about it ;-)

Why I like …

Am. Staffs (American Staffordshire Terrier, aka American Pit Bull Terrier, which is distinctly different than a real Pit Bull Terrier. Real Pit Bill Terriers are mainly found in Europe and only weigh around 30 to 40 lbs. while Am. Staffs weigh in the 50 to 60 lbs. range.)

Watching a show on TV today called Dogs with Jobs. There was a woman talking about her Am. Staff. They had read about someone else who had some Am. Staffs pups, so they took their own dog out to meet them and see what the place was like. They got there only to find out that the people who had the pups were basically breeding them for fighting. Well, they didn’t like that at all and decided to get out of there. As they were getting in the car, their own dog had one of the pups in her mouth! She had stolen one of the pups. The woman took that as a sign that this pup needed to go with them and so they just left with it! Anyway, Am. Staffs can be bred and taught to fight, but they are also some of the most loyal and protective dogs when it comes to their own pack that I’ve ever met. I wouldn’t give mine up for the world. We’ve had a house guest or two get freaked out over our Am. Staff. She’s got a very strong mothering instinct, and when you get out of the shower all wet, she thinks she needs to help dry you off, so she comes over and wants the lick the water off of your legs (and she also gives *very* long tongue baths to the other dogs, she never did that until after she had her own litter of pups). It can freak you out if you aren’t expecting it, but I promise she’s doing it out of a mothering instinct, not because she’s thirsty and thinks you are a big, wet salt lick ;-)

Long day yesterday…

Yep, left the house around 7am, got home around 10:30pm. Long day. On top of it all, I left my laptop at the office by accident, with my email program running. So, in order to check my email this morning I had to log into my laptop from remote, kill the email application, tar up the email app’s storage directory, transfer that to my home computer, untar it, then start the email app here on my home computer. Lotta hassle just to check email….wouldn’t have to do all that if I still had IMAP mail folders with all my email on the server, but it was too slow when the server was busy so I moved all my mail folders to being locally stored mail instead…

Today I get to spend the day doing training for public speaking. That’s gonna be fun ;-) I love public speaking already, and if you listen to the executive team at Red Hat I’m already damn good at it. Now I get to make myself even better at something I love to to. Woohoo!!

Oh yeah, the training is off site. They felt there would be too many interruptions at the Red Hat offices. So, the training is actually taking place at a country club that the director of HR at Red Hat is a member of. Afterwards (5ish or so), we go to Lucky 32 in Cary for drinks and socializing followed by dinner. It’ll be nice to finally try out Lucky 32, I’ve never made it there yet.

Also, since the place we are going is a country club, they have a dress code ;-) No denim of any sort, no uncollared shirts, etc. So, I figure if I’ve got to wear nice clothes anyway, then why dick around and only go half way. So, I’ve got the tie on and I’m wearing one of my favorite slacks/shirt/tie combos today. We’ll see what they say about it when I get there. I’m sure I’ll get harassed for dressing up again, but when I go out in nice clothes, I like to *actually* look nice, and not just half way nice ;-)
